Soulseek with Mac - Endless port forwarding issues

I used Soulseek for years on the PC with no issues. Recently, I have rediscovered the software, and I've been spending about 4 hours a day trying to get it to work.

I was able to set a static IP address & after many attempts on my Chinese Technicolor router, I even forwarded the ports. The next day, my Static IP no longer worked, so I re-set it & re-set the forwarding in my router. I have gotten the same "port closed" message 30 times in a row, regardless of doing exactly the same thing I did yesterday. I'm wondering what the problem could be. Is it just not a very good software for Mac users?
