Cannot connect to server

I am having trouble connecting soulseek, when I open the program I get a message saying: Could not connect to server. If internet connection is up, the server might be temporarily down. Please try again later.

I am using version 157 NS 13e, on Windows 8. It has been working perfectly good for a while, but all of a sudden I now get this error message and I cannot find any answers that can tell me why. Please help?!!

better you should use SoulseekQT, because the Soulseek NS is totally outdated.

The server "itself" is no different, I believe, between the versions.

I have the same problem but there must be a way to still be able to use the 157 NS 13e version (I used it yesterday, but since Windows 8 restarted my computer for an update I can't connect again), because the user interface of the new Soulseek program is absolutely horrible.
