slow down following award of donation perks

Recently I donated to soulseek. Sometime later, I received notification of perks and privileges I was to receive as a result. At the same time that I received this message. my soulseekQT started freezing and slowing down downloads to a standstill. I don't know if these issues are related, but I tried uninstalling and re-installing soulseek, as well as disabling AVG, and still the problem persists.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

If I remember correctly AVG is a problem even if it's disabled... I'd try installing it altogether. There's other software out there that works at least as well.
