The official "Can't Connect to Soulseek" thread

Hey guys, sorry for not responding to any connection problem reports over the last couple of weeks. I have a full-time job that's keeping me very busy and I've had trouble reaching even those of you who actually gave me their TeamViewer ID and password. To recap, chances are I won't really be able to help with any connection problems as in most cases it's an ISP blocking Soulseek or something similar. But, if you do want me to look at your problem via TeamViewer, private message me a messenger ID I can use to contact you (I use Google Talk and Skype, but I can install other messenger software if need be). I probably won't be able to contact you until the weekend, so please bear with me.

Repeated attempts to upload yield only 'aborted,' have found myself banned as a result. Can't seem to establish connection. My data as follows:
Operating System: Mac OSX 10.6
Inability to connect (for upload): always
Soulseek Build: 9-28-2012 (and earlier)
Where: Los Angeles CA
Provider: Time-Warner

This thread is intended for posts about problems connecting to the Soulseek service itself. There are many different reasons why you might not be able to form a connection to another user, see "Why can't I browse some users' files?" in the FAQ. It's not exactly the same thing, but it's related. If you'd like me to try and help you further with this, please start a new forum topic.

I've been a slsk user for a very long time, now is i tried to log in here on the site using my current log-in name (which is active in Soulseek NS version right now), but i'm being rejected. So i installed SlskQT and created a new password for this login name, which was confirmed on this site, but rejected by the client.
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
client version: soulseek QT 10-16-2012
where from: Ukraine
ISP: Kyivstar
As i mentioned, soulseek NS17 works fine.

The logins on this site aren't the same as the logins on Soulseek. If you appear not to be able to login under one username, try another.

-If you're not using the latest version of SoulseekQt available on the download page, whether you're having the same problem with it when you try it out. I'm using the latest version.
-Whether you're having the same problem with an older build. The 7/30 build should be ideal for this purpose, I've gotten reports from users who have only had connectivity issues with the last couple of SoulseekQt builds.
-Where in the world you hail from, and who is your Internet Service Provider. Chile
-If you're on Windows, are you able to connect using Soulseek NS?
-Would you be willing to have a TeamViewer session where I can look at the situation from your end? Not possible. It's my pc from work.

The system message reads like this:
Login failed. Reported failure reason: socket error. Please change your login settings in the Options tab and try reconnecting.

Is it possible your workplace is blocking Soulseek? I can't really say what's happening without being able to take a look at it myself unfortunately...

I'm new to soulseek QT, I previously used SSX which has not been working well lately for me. I can't connect with either anymore.

I opened the ports in my Airport TIme Capsule, but the Check Ports function still returns that they are CLOSED. Weird?!

TeamViewer is available for Mac, check out their website at www.teamviewer.com. Once you get it set up private message me the ID and password in the 'Allow Remote Control' section and I'll take a look at it.

what happened to you soulseek? you used to be cool...

Can't login in any shape way or form! i can login on the web just fine, change my password, and it still doesnt let me login on soulseek... whats going on??? I used to use this software a lot and contributed a donation as well. so disappointing and its obviously not just me.

im on windows7 laptop, brand new so no conflicts with other software.
no firewall, no blocking,
ports are fine,

just login doesnt work. why why why? even tried my old ns login and tried installing ns and that doesnt work either.

I'm gonna have to try and simplify this process. Some ISPs block or mess with Soulseek. If you suspect otherwise and/or want me to take a look at the problem, we're going to have to do this via TeamViewer. Private message me your TeamViewer 'Allow Remote Control' ID and Password and I'll look into it as soon as I can.

Hi there, I was having the 'socket error' problem; I backtracked my installation and everything was fine. Then, silly me, I decided to try out the new version of QT to see if the problem was with another version, and started getting the error again. This time, though, I couldn't go to an earlier version - now none of them would connect. I turned off my firewall and suddenly QT found a connection: the problem is my firewall. I have Bitdefender Total (2013), and I have already created a rule for it to allow QT to do anything it wants... still, it keeps blocking it.

Sorry, but could you post a detailed guide to what we need to do to enable soulseek to go through firewalls in general? I know that's a lot of work, but maybe I'm missing something I should activate elsewhere so that my firewall could let it pass. Thanks for all your work and support!
