Browse user's files

Hi there...

I've got a problem browsing the files of other users. It's working with some users and with others such as a friend of mine it just won't. Is there a setting or something i missed? Windows firewall is off on both my and my friend's computer, we're both using win7 and SoulseekQt. I hope you can help us.

Another question I've got: Is there a way to limit a search to a specified user?

Thanks in advance,
Maxim

Browsing relies on peer-to-peer connectivity, and not every two users on the Internet can connect to one another. I do agree though that there needs to be some kind of indication of the browse operation failing, which is currently absent in SoulseekQt and I'll definitely address at some point. To search a specified user, you can always browse their files and use the filter box at the bottom to search for what it is that you're looking for.

I have basically the same problem, on some users I can browse their files with no problem, on others I receive an error that a connection could not be established, check to see if my listing port is open. I have done this numerous times and I am taken to the browser page and it displays that the port is open and the router, and network are configured correctly, I have gone to www.canyouseeme.org and enter the port number that is listed in Options, the program checks the port and displays that the port is open, but still am not able to browse user's files. In the Diagnostics under Logs, I have noticed that under the share tab the first line that is displayed is "Attempting Connection on Port 2242" the next line that displays is "Renewing uPnP Port Mapping" is there something that I have setup incorrectly for this to display and SLSK to try and use this port and can this be causing the inability to browse user's files.

I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure what might be causing this. I think there might be a problem with the old client regarding forming indirect connections. Sometimes the remote side doesn't respond to indirect connection requests and I'm not sure why. This is a problem I never managed to reproduce in a local setting and I'm hoping the problem will gradually go away as more and more people switch to SoulseekQt.

Dear nir, I'm not sure it will go away by itself. I just installed SoulseekQt 2 days ago (mac version) and it was a fresh copy on a fresh computer.

In fact I left Soulseek 4 years ago when i switched to mac, and in the last days I discovered soulseek had worked on a real osx version (which is pretty great by the way, nice job guys!!). But I can't browse some users, including myself. I get this port error as reported before...

hope it helps...

For SoulseekQt to make a difference in that regard, most everyone would have to be using it. Only about 2-3% of the usership are on SoulseekQt right now.
