Upload Problems

Hi,

I share lots of files, but it seems that about 50% of upload requests are met and the rest get access denied.

Looking at the diagnostics under Transfer Queue Logs, I can see that all the upload requests that are denied have an additional slash inserted in the full path name. eg: "Queue upload requested by user1 for file \home\mark\smb4k\NIRVANA\media\Trance Albums\\Pure Euphoria - Level 4 - Mixed by Matt Darey CD1.mp3" between the directory structure and the actual file name. This results in the diag message "Denied, file not shared"

Other files get correctly identified, eg: "Queue upload requested by user2 for file \home\mark\smb4k\NIRVANA\media\Trance Tracks1\Avicii - Levels\Avicii - Best of Levels (David Puentez Mash Bootique 2012) (BacauHouseMafia.Ro).mp3" and get queued OK.

It seems to be user related as as I can have lots of requests from one user and all are misformatted and another users requests are all correctly formatted.

All the folders are correctly formatted in the file sharing config tab. I'm running the client on Debian Linux.

It looks to me like a bug but it's difficult to tell where it's being introduced. I'm routinely get rude messages from users who think I'm advertising files but then not sharing them, even though I openly share all the files!!!

That's very useful information, thank you for posting about it. The client should definitely be able to handle multiple backslashes. Are you on Linux 32 or 64 bit?

Thanks for that - I'm now running it and I'll monitor and report back. Sadly when I reloaded the client I lost the names of 2 users I was chatting to who had problems, otherwise I could have asked them to try again :)

Sadly the new version didn't fix the problem. I'm still seeing double backslash separators in the file names in the diagnostic logs and 'Denied, file not shared'. :(

The interesting bit is that my earlier assertion that a user either works or gets access denied was wrong! User djdag got access denied at the top of the log, but later on successfully queued files from other directories...

Hmm, I may be missing something obvious, but I can't say why this is happening. I went as far as simulate the problem on my end, intentionally taking the requested filename and making the last backslash a double backslash, still no problems uploading... maybe I need to look at this with a clearer head.

Hi, I spent a bit more time digging through the logs to see if I could establish if it was certain directories that caused the problem (ie something had gone wrong when I set up the sharing of that directory). Then I came across this sequence:

Where the user requests some files from a directory (...Albums3) and gets Denied, but later requests different files from the *same* directory and it's OK!

Just in case, I checked the directory and all the files have the same permissions and user and group settings... Hope this helps :)

Hi Nir,

I've spend a couple of days trawling the logs and have some (almost) concrete observations...

Where the upload request is for a file within a subdirectory of one of the shared directories, then the request is always queued OK. But where the file is in the shared directory itself then the upload is always 'Denied, file not shared'.

Anoyingly, I came across just one example (in about 6 days of logs) where this didn't apply, viz:

where the file is in the 'root' of the shared directory (the shared directory is \home\mark\smb4k\NIRVANA\media\Trance Albums1)! Interestingly we also have double slashes here, but I suspect that the double slash thing is a complete red herring...

I hope this helps narrow down where something is going wrong??

It seems that this problem still exists.. Some people keep getting DENIED, while others (who download the SAME files) don't...
