windows 8 and soul seek not compatible?????????

every time i try to search it crashes. regardless of the parameters of the search. big or hella specific.
i clocked it crashing at about 120 seconds everytime like clockwork.
i uninstalled it and tried again, no go.
i changed my AVG settings to allow it full access, no go.
i uninstalled AVG and tried again, no go.

so as of now i've uninstalled the useless soulseek, if there's anyway for it to work i'd really like to be able to use it again, as most underground weird math indie rock that never got proper pressings are in here and nowhere else. PLEASE help.-patrick

first upgrade your Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Update 1 (from Windows Store or Windows Update) which is more stable.

also try to remove the .dat files located in "C:\Users\*YourWindowsUsername*\AppData\Local\SoulseekQt\1" that could be corrupted/damaged causing SoulseekQt crash.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that build 2014.8.31 works really well for me in Windows 8.1 using Eset Endpoint Antivirus (formerly NOD32, which has a long history of causing problems with Soulseek). What's more, it's running in a VirtualBox virtual machine, using config files that I imported from a previous Windows 7 installation on real hardware. I didn't need to tweak the AV in any way, or add any exclusions to it.

I had previously tried using Eset Endpoint AV with SoulseekQt under Windows XP on real hardware, and could not get a satisfactory result - while my setup seemed to work OK, and my ports test was good, people downloading from me experienced a lot of problems. I tried much tweaking of the AV and could not get good results using it.

Other results that I've had that may be of use to somebody:
I tried running the 32-bit Linux versions under PC-BSD, with Linux emulation set up, with completely negative results, but I could get the Windows versions running on it under Wine. This was about a year ago under PC-BSD 9, I haven't tried running SoulseekQt under 10.

Also, i seem to have lost my 189 support days today when I uninstalled and re-installed the latest version of soulseekqt even though i can't sign in. I'm at a loss. Tried everything, all forum suggestions but have hit a brick wall. Please help. ziogio1961@rogers.com. Lost all my historical user date like wjo I contact when in trouble via chat , i believe its gypsie something but don't remember.
