Crash/freeze on Start in new 8.31 update

Hi, I'm experiencing freezing upon starting the client since the new 8.31 update. It will open and then completely freeze, with no option but to shut it down via task manager. I have tried common fixes such as run as administrator and removing/switching antivirus provider (I saw that mentioned as a possible fix, but had no effect for me). I would appreciate any help as I am a very dedicated uploader to slsk.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Laptop-based

No, I was never running AVG.
No, I was never running AVG. I was running Avast and then Avira, and didn't have any trouble with those. Uninstalled Avira just to check, but still no dice. All right.
