For several years I used soulseek with no problems. With my new computer I have had continual problem of soulseek disconnecting and disconnecting my internet, as well, or at least disconnecting all my internet connections/applications forcing me to restart my dsl modem.
I downloaded Simple Static IP, but that hasn't helped.
Occasionally, I'll be able to download a little before it disconnects. Often, it disconnects even before that.
I searched the web and tried various things. I've read about port forwarding and port conflict issues, but I still have had no success, and am utterly clueless how to fix this. HELP!!!

I'm having the same problem.
I'm having the same problem. I'm looking for an older version to download, as this only started after the recent update.
solution to having the same problem
I had that problem with both the old program and QT. I'm back with the old, working fine. In the old program open Options > General Options, at bottom of list on the left uncheck 'Use uPnP(port forwarding)', click OK and that did it for me. I don't know the process in QT. Good luck.
I tried it with no luck. The
I tried it with no luck. The problem remains. Any other ideas?
Did you close and reopen it after changing the setting?
If that doesn't work I have no idea
If you aren't doing port
If you aren't doing port forwarding, then the only incoming traffic is going to be replies to your own outbound traffic... so you won't be sending search results to anyone, and no one new is browsing or queuing you, and you can probably only download from people who have slots open at the moment you queue. That's not a good solution.
This points to the actual problem likely being that your hardware is not able to handle the amount of inbound traffic you get when port forwarding is properly configured. The inbound traffic shouldn't be a problem, volume-wise, but it might have the "look" of a DDoS attack because tons of random IP addresses are hitting you with small packets. Look in your router config for flood protection or something like that.
Port or no port? Is that really the question?
I have a dsl modem. I've gone into it to set as recommended. That didn't help. Only unchecking uPnP solved my issue. Until I get new instructions this is where I'm at.
As for being able to handle inbound traffic. I never had those problems when I had 2kbps dial up, and a much slower dsl. So, I don't understand how or why inbound traffic amounts would be a problem now.
Well, you said it's a new
Well, you said it's a new computer, so there was a hardware change. The problem may be at that end of the connection rather than at the modem.
New seems to be the clue.
That makes sense. But what are the things to look for and what end of the connection? But, is anyone else with a new computer having this problem? I haven't heard much.
