Linux build (30 Nov 14, 32bit): Unicode in folders broken?

Yes, it seems Unicode got somehow broken in the latest Linux build.
I have some folders with my share that uses TRUE Unicode for Japanese (i. e. not Shift-JIS or anything of that sort). They will only display as ??????? now.
In the old version, this still works and Japanese is correctly shown as Japanese.
I've also tried to use default font or tried out 15 different fonts, to no avail.
I can't be the only one who sees this?

Update! More findings...
This is a very weird issue! I only get question marks when there is Japanese use in folders, BUT with audio file names inside folders, the Japanese characters do work - no question marks.
Any ideas why, Nir?
