"Aborted" on every download

Hi,

I'm a Mac user. Used SoulseekQT for a few days - was pretty much OK. All of a sudden, however, I started getting "Aborted" on virtually every single download, and every single user.

I have a few dozen tracks queued up, they're on "Queued", at some point they start downloading (albeit with excruciatingly low speeds of 0.5 Kb/s or so), and go into "Aborted" shortly after.

No idea what happened - I tried switching listening ports in the App to random values, turning "use UPn" in the app itself on and off, tried switching Port Forwarding for SoulSeek directly on my router (surprisingly, it had that option!), nothing seems to help - I keep on connecting to the server, being able to perform searches, queue up transfers that start, but they just fail to complete.

If anyone has any ideas what could help, I would really, really appreciate some guidance.

Can you see if build 2015-2-21 from the download page is behaving differently? I rewrote large parts of the file transfer code since then. Is this only happening with a specific user?

Hi Nir,

i've been trying 2015-2-21 and no changes.
nope this is not happening with only one guy unfortunatly, but at least 5 or 6 guys for now.
with one of them, i cant even get my place in line from him ( i see the request but never get an answer), with that same user, i don't think i've managed to get his list since things are not working properly (it's quite big so it can tricky, it was with ns version but i remember getting it every time before the fuck ups)i'm not even able to get his info!! anyway i've just messaged him in order to know which version he is using!

i got another user from which i wanted to download 3 ramdom tracks, no problem with one, the 2nd had a few try before finally downloading but the last one keep failing. got the answer for what he was using, qt version (he told me he had also those problems with some user (about 2%) but with torrents too, which is not my case)

also files that fail downloading most of the time ends up being queued zero

don't know if that helps but here some more info from last user i talk about:

Mac user. I've used soulseek for years with minimal problems, but now every download is "aborted" as soon as I start it.

All my new downloads are behaving as per previously described as well.
This began just today. I'm running QT 20015.6.12 on Mac OS X. (V:10.7.5)

I got the same problem since a few days ago. This happened to some user that I downloaded from and I can see some user got the same download abortions from me as well.

I'm on Mac OSX 10.8.5, SoulseekQt built 2015.6.12

check your download folder if exists
go OPTIONS and then SET DOWNLOAD FOLDER

Hi guys,

I'm having difficulties too, after being a soulseek user for a number of years (under a different user name) my mac has suddenly started aborting all of my downloads. I'm an absolute noob with computing so any help whatsoever in leymans terms would be appreciated. All I've done so far is open the listening & server ports via my modern not sure if that was right but I've done it anyway, but still nothing :(

Most of the cases I know the DL hangs/doesn't start when the ports are not routed to your machine. What does the port test say? Have U enabled the extended diagnostic/logging?

I had the same issue, Slsk was connecting but failed on every download.

I thought that I had done nothing to make it now stop working.. I was wrong. I eventually retraced my steps and it turned out that I changed the location of my Download and Share folders and the directory where they were was now invalid (straight onto Mac SSD).

It seems obvious now but make sure you check this before pulling your hair out troubleshooting with uPNP settings, port forwarding etc.

Hope this helps newcomers to this problem.

I enabled Diagnostics, and see issues like this:

That path definitely exists and is definitely write-able...

they should, as NTFS permissions are quite important when you run in unpriviledged mode (default since Vista). The right way is to enable NTFS permissions to everywhere the app/user has to work.

The extended log would help. Maybe you have no rights on the Download folder or moved it, which is a FAQ for win/linux/OSX?

For so long I wasn't having any problems getting access to files; now all of a sudden no matter what I put in as a search it comes up. But when I go to download I get "aborted" in red on ALL Of them. I have uninstalled & reinstalled several times. I'm computer illiterate so I have no idea what the above means by "start a new client session" and so forth. It's extremely frustrating.

did you follow the manual and forwarded the two ports in your firewall? Else it's normal that things doesn't work properly.
As any Peer-2-Peer System is a client (which is easy) and a server (which takes some time and work to work properly) at the same time, basic understanding of PCs or networking is quite essential.
