Using 'search' causes internet to disconnect

Forums:
In the last few days when using Soulseek QT my internet connection automatically disconnects as soon as I search for anything. I can browse the files of users in my list and download from them without any issues but as soon as I hit 'search' my connection goes. My partner's computer does not encounter the same problem when using Soulseek so it doesn't seem like a problem with the router. I'm a bit confused as it's only happened in the last few days and nothing on the computer has been changed. I tried using an older verion of Soulseek and the same thing happened. Can anyone help? Happy to provide more information if needed. Thanks!

Hi juicegermer
Hi juicegermer
if you use the search button you will find the exact problem a few times already: your router is too weak to cope with the mass of SLSL answers=> get a better one
Cheers
I would guess it's a problem
I would guess it's a problem with the router if this had always been a problem but it's only in the last few days. Also, it doesn't happen when my partner uses Soulseek on his computer. That suggests to me that the router is not the issue.
Hi juicegermer
Hi juicegermer
that's exactly what I mean: the router gets on search up to 10.000 answers in the first seconds, when he could not cope with that amount he has to postpone the packets and on a certain amount his 2do buffer overflows (stack overflow) and he (the router) resets and drops his Inet connect that second. It's quite usual with such "flood" using apps like torrent or SLSK. As the users (that who answers the search) varies greatly (up to 100.000 per day) up to 100.000 answers come in when searched for something very common. If your search is more deterministic (lots of search expressions) the answers get more rare. If that works its surely the router. Have you searched for such cases. They are very usual here.
Cheers
Internet get shut down
Hey, I have been having the exact same problem for as long as you. This is NOT router related, I have an ASUS Router that is the top of the line. It only kicks off my internet Modem when I do a search for anything. This happened several years ago and has come back.
Hi mThirteen
Hi mThirteen
that's exactly a router problem! Do you think there's a way to say to the router (by the app called SLSKqt) please disconnect me, when only talking is via streams thru the router?
Your router maybe whatever but he overloads. The right behavior for that is to drop packets and not get a buffer overflow. Why is the other users (about 100k Users per day) that happening? The same goes to a lot of torrent problems with routers. The (CPU/RAM capacity) of a router is only ONE point. Good firmware programming is getting rarer every day as time-to-market is getting shorter every generation. Most actual apps go the "banana way"=> it ripens at the customer.
